Chief executive of UK corporate finance boutique hired his brother, but it's ok
In the old days of the City of London, when lunches were long and women were mostly secretaries, it wasn't unusual for hiring to be done on the basis of close genetic relationships. Now that US banks dominate and graduate intakes are meritocratic, this is less the case at junior levels. At senior levels, however, having a relative in a top banking job may still count.

Strand Hanson, a UK corporate finance boutique, now employs two members of the same family. Simon Raggett has been chief executive there for nearly 26 years, and last month Christopher Raggett, his brother, joined as a director in the corporate finance team.
Christopher Raggett's arrival appears to have raised some eyebrows. Strand Hanson declined to comment.
The reunion of the two Raggetts may in fact be a propitious event for Strand Hanson.
Christopher Raggett has a long history in corporate finance and spent 12 years at Finncap before leaving when it merged with Cenkos to form Cavendish. After leaving Finncap, Christopher was initially thought to be joining Allenby Capital but became CEO of something called Green House Capital instead. Companies House records show him leaving Green House Capital in April 2024. He appears to have joined Strand Hanson in a more junior role on the rebound.
