Standard Chartered transformation chief leaves Singapore for new UAE job
It's not just bankers who are succumbing to the allure of a move to the UAE, banking technologists are doing so too. Standard Chartered's group chief transformation officer, Divyesh Vithlani, is the latest to make the jump.

Vithlani has left Standard Chartered and his former home of Singapore to join First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), a firm once rumored of taking over Standard Chartered, as its group chief technology and transformation officer. He spent two years in his previous role, joining from tech consultancy Accenture, where he was a senior MD.
Vithlani made his name at Credit Suisse; he joined the bank's Singapore office as a VP in 1998 and worked his way up to group chief technology operating officer over 14 years. That promotion involved leaving Singapore for Switzerland but, seemingly homesick, he only lasted two years in the role before going back to Singapore, where he worked for the past decade... until now.
FAB has been on a bit of a hiring spree as of late. Last week, Bloomberg reported that it hired Omar Hafeez, Citi's CEO for North Africa, Levant and Central Asia, and that other senior figures from Citi were joining too. FAB ranked fifth overall in our 2024 Ideal Employer Rankings and was the second-highest bank behind Goldman Sachs; its recent hires are seemingly evidence of its growing appeal.
Standard Chartered looks keen on the UAE too. It announced today that it will be expanding its frontline private banking team in the country by 20%.
