JPMorgan's tech team hired an Amazon director and Pfizer executive as MDs
JPMorgan has been hiring multiple senior technologists, but they're not all coming from finance. Two new managing directors (MDs), who both announced their arrivals yesterday via LinkedIn, have come from Big Tech and Big Pharma, respectively.

Paul Truax is joining JPMorgan in its Wilmington Delaware office as an MD in servicing technology after 13 years at Amazon. He was most recently a software development director for its fulfillment technology, managing a 205-person team working on "software, hardware, AI/ML and computer vision." He also worked on its 'Last Mile' routing software, and spent three years as an engineering manager in its Kindle team. It's a finance homecoming for Truax, who previously spent three and a half years at Bank of America building consumer branch management applications.
Truax's Amazon experience was intense at times. In a goodbye post when he left Amazon in June, he said that one of his teams once worked "7 days a week for eight weeks straight to deliver a new mobile configuration platform." One of his former teammates, Jake Sanders, remarked that "being in the trenches" with him "ended up being a highlight of my career."
Separately, the bank also hired Ziv Maor, deputy CISO at Pfizer, as an MD and head of cybersecurity for connected commerce. He spent just 15 months at Pfizer, but spent seven years before that at another pharmaceutical firm, Novartis, where he was initially based in Israel but moved to the US to become its head of security architecture and cybersecurity.
Maor previously worked for Israeli tech firm Maglan, focused on offensive cybersecurity simulations. He worked there for six years prior to its acquisition by Accenture in 2016; at the time the firm reportedly had just ~30 'extreme experts.' Cybersecurity specialists in banking often come from some unusual places; in July, BofA hired Pablo Martinez, a former special agent for the US Secret Service, as an SVP for information security.
