JPMorgan hired the head of UBS' AI lab to assess employee performance
JPMorgan's quest to implement AI has continued in 2026. It just hired a veteran AI technologist that spent the last two decades working on technology for investment bankers. Now, though he's doing something a little different.

Ronald Jansen is joining JPMorgan in New York as its head of AI for human resources and employee experience. He spent the last seven years at UBS, where he was an MD and global head of its AI lab in its global banking division. Before that he spent 13 years at Goldman Sachs, eight of which as an MD, where he led a team of strats working on M&A, capital markets and derivatives structuring.
JPMorgan made multiple MD-level hires in its HR and employee experience division last year. Matt Brandt joined in July as its head of data and analytics from Morgan Stanley. A month later, the bank hired a head of talent transformation from tech consultancy Accenture.
AI is already part of the performance review process at JPMorgan. Bloomberg reported in November that the bank has allowed managers to use internal AI bots to write reviews. It's not the first bank to do so; Jane Fraser said in October that there were supposedly cheers at Citi when the bank announced staff could use AI to assess performance.
The technology Jansen will develop at JPMorgan may decide who gets promoted... or cut. CEO Jamie Dimon said at Davos last month that he expects JPMorgan to have fewer employees in five years time, and has already been eliminating entire categories of job thanks to AI
