Christian Blanc, who spent over six years at Goldman in London after time at Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan, joined Millennium this month as the London-based deputy head of networks and data centres. In this role, Blanc is already hiring a new engineer for the fund's two London data centres, which provide power, cabling and security for Millennium's multiple London office technology rooms.
Millennium declined to comment on Blanc's arrival. At Goldman Sachs, he latterly worked on the Foundational Infrastructure team under partner Orla Dunne.
Data centres everywhere are being upgraded to support the AI boom. Goldman Sachs forecast last year that AI will account for 28% of the data centre market by the end of 2026.
Millennium has a global head of AI in the form of Gideon Mann, who joined from Bloomberg in 2023. It also has a head of AI for equities in the form of Mike Purewal, who joined from BofA the same year. In total, the firm currently has over 20 vacancies for which AI is an integral part of the role. Among other things, it's building an AI research agent.
AI needs data centres but it also needs data. In December, Millennium also hired Alexei Dvoretskii from Radix Trading as head of high speed historic market data and simulation. Dvoretskii once did a similar job at Tower Research.
In a separate incident of infrastructure hiring, Bob Van Zant, who was a principal software engineer at Citadel before disappearing on gardening leave in early 2025, has just reappeared at Balyasny as an infrastructure manager working with on-premises cloud.
