Goldman Sachs' artistic AI MD has left for JPMorgan

Since the demise of Goldman Sachs' consumer bank, Marcus, many MDs that worked in the division have since drifted to JPMorgan. Isabella Disler, formerly head of engineering for Marcus' consumer digital products team, is the latest to make the switch.

Disler joins JPMorgan as an MD and global head of observability. She spent the past year as Goldman's global head of firmwide engineering excellence, and was its Americas head of developer Gen AI initiatives. Observability is a DevOps practice of understanding a system's internal state by examining its outputs. The bank has previously used observability when troubleshooting its cloud data architecture.

Disler was a 23-year lifer at Goldman. She was an early tech fellow and made MD in 2017, long before joining Marcus. She previously worked in the bank's prime services, core engineering and developer relations teams.

When not implementing AI at Goldman, Disler contributed art to the 2024 Glen Rock Arts Festival. Presumably, she did not use MidJourney.

Meanwhile, as banks hire AI talent from other banks, private equity firms tend to have to look elsewhere. Apollo has just hired Jason Mather as its head of AI engineering from Blackrock, where he was the firm's head of applied AI. The firm also previously hired a hedge fund alum, Sameer Gupta to be its chief data and analytics officer in January.
