US jobs roundup: Fund managers make key hires

Traditional fund managers and hedge funds have been prominent among financial services companies hiring staff in the US in the past two weeks.

Janus Capital recruited Jill Paitchel as president of Janus International, the company's global division. In this new position based in Westport, Connecticut, she will oversee Janus' international business, which managed more that $6 billion in assets at the end of 2003. Paitchel's experience includes seven years at Citigroup Asset Management and 10 years with Lehman Brothers.

David Fleischer, a Goldman Sachs energy industry analyst, joined the portfolio management team of the US alternative investments group Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors. Fleischer will be responsible for master limited partnerships, utilities and other marketable securities.

At Goldman Fleischer was on the investment policy and stock selection committees for 10 years.

David Carlsen, a former analyst at Strong Capital Management, joined the science and technology management team of Buffalo Funds, a subsidiary of Kornitzer Capital Management. Carlsen was a senior equity research analyst at Strong, one of many firms accused of allowing market-timing in 2003.

Lehman Brother's private client services group hired Alison Deans as a managing director. Deans will supervise private client research and oversee investment planning, asset allocation, manager selection and delivery of research. Deans previously worked at Bank One as chief financial officer of commercial banking and was a director of strategic projects for the office of the chairman.

Credit Suisse Asset Management appointed Stephen Kaszynski as head of its value team, replacing Stan Nabi who it said left the firm to pursue other opportunities. Kaszynski came from D.A. Capital Management, a firm he co-founded in 2001 after working at Invesco Capital Management for 10 years. He will report to Greg Sawers, head of US equities and global research.

Gary Haubold joined Gartmore Global Investments as a senior portfolio manager focused on small-cap and mid-cap equities. He formerly managed a hedge fund for Edge Capital Management LLC.

BNP Paribas made Jeffrey Stufsky managing director in its project finance and utilities team. Stufsky, who is based in New York, has 24 years experience in commodities trade and project finance and will head mining and metals project finance in the Americas. He was previously at Deutsche Bank where he was head of the mining and metals group.

Bank of Bermuda hired Mark Kuuse in New York to head the IT development of front office trade management. He joins from Misys, the software company, in Tokyo where was in charge of FIX order-routing and order-execution trading systems.

Bessemer Venture Partners, a US venture capital firm, appointed Rob Stavis as a general partner. Stavis joined Bessemer three years ago as a venture partner, focusing on financial services, technologies, and software after leaving Salomon Smith Barney where he was the co-head of global arbitrage trading.

At Deutsche Bank Robert Khuzami has replaced Timothy Mayopoulos as general counsel for the Americas. Khuzami has been with Deutsche Bank since 2001 and most recently was global head of litigation and regulatory investigations.

In internal shuffling at Citigroup Richard Moore has become head of European fixed income, while his predecessor Steve Bowman heads back to New York. Bowman will remain head of global fixed income sales and research.
