Two Italian rates traders at Citi disappeared simultaneously

Citi is missing two of its rates traders. The bank isn't commenting, but it's understood that two mid-ranking traders there resigned this week. Coincidentally, both are Italian.

Giovanni Miste, a G-10 cross currency rates derivatives trader at Citi is understood to have resigned in London. Giuseppe Murgo, a euro bond trader at Citi is understood to have resigned in Milan.

It's not clear what Miste and Murgo's intentions are. Neither man responded to an attempt to elicit this from them.

Their departures from Citi come as the European rates market is subject to some heavy hiring. Alok Modi is understood to be making aggressive offers as he replenishes his team at Deutsche Bank. Nomura has been hiring, Barclays has gaps to fill and is trying to retain people already there. Citadel Securities is also sniffing about. Murgo and Miste have many potential seats.
