This month, Aayush Sharma joined from Tower Research Capital as a senior quantitative trader. He spent over 12 years with the HFT firm in New York, after previously working on high-frequency algorithms as an associate for Deutsche Bank.
Most recent hires are relatively recent graduates. Ribhav Gaur joined as a quantitative researcher from Balyasny's commodities team; He's a 2023 MFE graduate from MIT, but was formerly a senior quant at Millennium spinoff WorldQuant, working on natural language processing. Rohan Prasad joined as a quant developer. He previously interned at Jump Crypto and Citadel, but has spent the last year and a half as a graduate at systematic crypto HFT firm Pattern Research. PhD statistician Luqin joined prop market-maker HAP Capital as a quant graduate last year, but left for Cubist this month.
It's also hiring graduates straight from the source. Taoan Huang joined Cubist's equity alpha research team this month, having previously interned in Meta's AI team and Amazon's robotics team.
Cubist has over 500 employees according to its website, and is looking to grow by around 10%, with 52 open job listings. These are similarly youth focused; 9 of the roles are internships, five are graduate roles while just five of them demand more than 3 years of work experience. Point72 founder Steve Cohen professed his love for hiring young talent last month, saying that "they’re open to new ideas and up on new techniques and technologies."
These graduates also have the potential to earn big money. Cubist is home to KEPL, an elite statistical arbitrage team. It's currently hiring for a quant analyst with 1-3 years of experience on a salary of up to $300k. KEPL's interns are also better paid than the likes of Jane Street and Citadel.
At a more senior level, however, it's seen some outgoings recently. Vibhav Bukkapatanam joined as a marquee hire from Citadel Securities last year to run its high-frequency division, but left in October.
