HSBC cut these senior traders in Hong Kong and Singapore

HSBC isn't just cutting people in its European and US investment banking teams. It's also cutting people in its Asian sales and trading teams who might have presumed their jobs to be safe.

In recent weeks, the bank has removed various people from its Hong Kong macro business, and changed the positions of others.

The removals are understood to include: Ashwin Padagaonkar, a director-level macro salesman, in Hong Kong; Vineet Agarwhal, the head of emerging market FX options in Singapore, and Amber Hasan, a director in macro sales in Singapore.

HSBC declined to comment on the exits, which are understood to have taken place around two weeks ago.

The bank has been hiring amongst the departures. George Sun, the head of global markets for China at BNP Paribas, is joining HSBC as head of global debt markets for Asia on March 11th. Sun's imminent arrival has led some to question the future of William Shek, HSBC's longstanding head of fixed income trading in Asia who is rumoured to be retiring. Sun, however, is understood not to be replacing Shek, which could create some interesting conversations about the boundaries of each role.
