Hedge fund Millennium has quietly been hiring people from Squarepoint

Hedge fund Millennium doesn't just hire its quantitative traders from the likes of Jane Street. It's also been quietly hiring people who've left Squarepoint Capital, a quant fund founded within Lehman Brothers in Tokyo in 2000 but that now has offices around the world.

Millennium has made multiple hires from Squarepoint. They include Khalil Bouchareb, Antoine Le Calvez and Tyler Abbot. Abbot is in Paris, Bouchareb is based in London and Le Calvez is in Switzerland.

Millennium isn't commenting on the moves. Marc Ghilardi, who spent six years at Squarepoint has also moved to Glassbox Asset Management, with which Millennium has an exclusive relationship. Unconfirmed reports suggest that he received a seven figure package. He's thought to be working on signal research in Paris.

Abbot spent nearly four years at Squarepoint as a quantitative researcher. Bouchareb spent nearly seven years there in high frequency trading. The two men are thought to be working on Millennium's own HFT platform and to have joined more recently.

Antoine Le Calvez spent nearly four years as a researcher at Squarepoint in Paris and is also thought to have joined Millennium recently.

It's not clear whether the men are under non-compete or non-solicit restrictions from Squarepoint. Citadel recently increased its non-competes to 21 months for some portfolio managers, but two year non-competes - or more - are common in the quant space.
