Hedge fund ExodusPoint's ex-head of trading in London joins rival fund LMR Partners

London hedge fund LMR Partners has had a difficult few months after losing money in September. However, it continues to build out its equities business, and has hired a new trading head from ExodusPoint.

Andy Hill joined LMR Partners in London today as its head of European equities trading. Hill spent seven years at ExodusPoint and a decade at both Balyasny and Millennium. 

LMR's other recent equity hires include Oliver Briars, who arrives next month from Point72 and previously worked for Citadel. In July, LMR also hired portfolio manager Ediz Karahasonoglu, previously head of emerging markets equities trading at Goldman Sachs.

LMR's poor September performance was thought to be impacted by star trader Andrew Berger, who unceremoniously left the firm last month. Berger ran the fund's mortgage trading team until a highly-leveraged strategy unravelled, losing year-to-date gains of $100m in September. Not all teams at LMR have struggled; the fund's convertible bonds team is on track for record 30% gains this year.
