Hedge fund ExodusPoint hired hedge fund Point72's Gen AI guy
If you're the sort of person who can encourage hedge funds to adopt new technologies, it seems that you're also the sort of person whom all the top hedge funds want to hire.
Sridhar Nimmagadda, a man with a masters in computer engineering from the University of Kansas and an MBA from NYU Stern, has built a career travelling from one leading multistrategy hedge fund to another, evangelizing for new technologies.
The new technology of the moment is generative AI and Nimmagadda has just joined ExodusPoint as head of AI transformation. He was last seen at Point72, where he was head of generative AI technology for 20 months until August 2024.
Nimmagadda is more a strategist than a specialist in the construction of large language models. At Point72 he claims to have "established" the generative AI function, encouraged adoption and "empowered" teams to use Gen AI solutions. Presumably he'll now be busy with something similar at ExodusPoint.
His career looks like a lesson in how to reinvent yourself as an expert in new technologies. Until 2017, Nimmagadda worked in equities trading technology at Millennium. He then became Millennium's head of technology R&D, with a focus on low latency trading and "exploration" of machine learning models. In 2023, he focused entirely on GenAI, which looks fortuitous given its popularity.
