David Ossack, Goldman's global head of emerging market foreign exchange (EMFX) options trading, announced on LinkedIn that he is "incredibly excited" to be "embarking on a new adventure" at Citadel, the hedge fund, where he will be a portfolio manager.
Ossack, who didn't respond to a request to comment for this article, had been on his old adventure at Goldman Sachs for nearly two decades. He joined the firm in London after graduating from Warwick University in 2005 and worked there ever since.
Ossack had good reason to stay. He appears to have been promoted regularly at Goldman, where he began as a middle office analyst and moved into trading before becoming a managing director aged in his early 30s.
Citadel is partial to hiring from Goldman Sachs. The fund's other London Goldman hires this year include Tushar Singla as head of international treasury quants and Charlotte Maisey, a commodities COO.
Goldman's London emerging markets traders have a particular predilection for joining hedge funds. Various members of the equities team left earlier this year. "Once someone leaves for a big fund, everyone else gets motivated to do the same thing," said one insider at the time. Ossack may start a similar trend in EM fixed income. It would be good timing. Bloomberg notes that US rate cuts are expected to drive the biggest emerging market bond rally in years.
