Goldman Sachs FICC MD left after 24 years for hedge fund Millennium

Electronic trading firms may be a tempting new exit opportunity for banking MDs, but the classic hedge fund route is still alive and well. The latest to use it is Michael Kaprelian, swapping Goldman Sachs for Millennium.

At Goldman Sachs, he was most recently an MD and head of management and strategy for fixed income, currencies and commodities. He joined the bank in 1999 from consultancy EY, achieving promotion to MD in 2017. Kaprelian described his role as a COO/chief of staff, meaning he had a hand in building Goldman's high-performing FICC team.

FINRA's BrokerCheck tool says Kaprelian left Goldman Sachs in late 2023. Kaprelian may have taken a career break.

Millennium has had a rougher start to 2025 than most. It had negative returns for multiple months and, although it was up 0.53% in April, it was still down 1.35% for the first four months of the year according to Bloomberg. Kaprelian may need to offer his strategic insights soon.
