Hedge fund ExodusPoint doubled its pay in London to $1.1m
Hedge funds pay notoriously well. But even for a hedge fund, doubling average pay into the seven figures is exceptionally generous – unless you are ExodusPoint Capital Management, it seems.
Average pay at ExodusPoint in London was £847k ($1.1m) in 2024, according to accounts published last week for ExodusPoint Capital Management LLP, the London-based subsidiary of the American hedge fund. In 2023, average pay at the fund was just £408k ($550k).
The healthy pay rise was funded by a big revenue increase. The fund made £223m ($301m) in London in 2024, up on the £131m ($176m) it made in 2023.
Profit, in turn, was £106m ($143m) in 2024, up from £79m ($107m) the year prior. ExodusPoint also hired more people, with headcount going from 96 people in 2023 to 110 in 2024.
The generosity did not necessarily extend to ExodusPoint’s “members” (UK legal jargon for partners in a legal partnership), most of which are portfolio managers. Average member compensation declined to £6.7m ($9.0m) in 2024, from £8.1m ($10.9m) in 2023.
The best-paid member at the firm, however, earned £31m ($41m) in 2024, up from the £20m ($27m) they/it earned in 2023. However, this is possibly a payment to the ExodusPoint parent company in the USA.
Last year's rise in pay was a signal of just how bad 2023 was for the firm. Although revenue in 2024 was back above 2022 levels, pay was not – the average London ExodusPoint employee earned £933k ($1.3m) per head in 2022.
