Citadel Securities' average European salary plus bonus hit $750k
As we observed earlier this month, Citadel Securities is on track to pay its average global employee $2m for 2025. In London, its average employee earned half that in 2024.
Accounts recently released for Citadel Securities Europe Services Ltd., Citadel Securities' main European subsidiary, show the firm employing 244 people in London, France and Switzerland last year and paying them an average of $1.1m (£820k) each after the deduction of employer's tax contributions. However, this includes deferred pay from the previous year. When 2024 compensation alone is computed, the average London employee earned $750k.
Very few of Citadel Securities' European staff work in the front office: the accounts reveal that only 54 of its 244 employees are in front office roles, with the rest classified as working in technology and administrative support.
Pay at Citadel Securities' European business came predominantly in the form of cash salaries last year; a small proportion of the total (26%) took the form of share-based payments.
Citadel Securities is an electronic market making firm. Globally, it generated an enormous $9.7bn in trading revenues and $4.2bn in net income last year. Europe was a very minor contributor to this. Revenues at Citadel Securities Europe Services were $396m and profits were only $31m.
At another London entity, Citadel Securities (Europe) Ltd, revenues were $311m and profits were $47m.
The US business is presumably considerably more profitable.
