Berenberg's enthusiasm for lifting people from Peel Hunt remains undented

Berenberg and Peel Hunt are not the same. One is a German privately owned bank with a 430 year history and one is a British publicly traded bank that was set up in 1989. One, however, is stocking up on many of the other's staff.

Berenberg has recruited Benedict Potts, a sales trader from Peel Hunt, to work in its London office. Potts joined in 2018 and had spent his career at Peel Hunt, until now.

Potts is Berenberg's latest prize from the Peel Hunt pot. It recruited a further eight Peel Hunt people last year, including senior bankers like Tom Ballard, Adrian Trimmings, Carl Gough, Harry Nicholas, Mike Burke, John Welch, and Miles Cox.

Potts is unlikely to be the last of the hires. Profits at Berenberg rose nearly 50% last year and headcount has increased five times since 2018.
