RBC adds new research head from small, London-based bank

Researchers at investment banks might be less popular than before, but that doesn’t mean that some banks aren’t interested in bolstering their offerings.

Ben Davis joined RBC to head up its European metals & mining research team earlier this week. Davis came from Liberum Capital - now known as Panmure Liberum - an independent London-based investment bank where he spent over 12 years as a European mining analyst.

Panmure Liberum, which was born of a merger between brokerage Panmure Gordon and rival Liberum earlier this year, also announced a significant headcount reduction across the combined entity just a few months after the merger.

Researchers including head of industrials Edward Maravanyika and oil & gas analyst Sam Wahab have since departed the bank, although it's not clear whether they did so of their own accords. Maravanyika doesn't seem to have found a new role since leaving, but Wahab is now at Peel Hunt.
