This isn’t one of them. Vincent Charvin-d’Andlau is a managing director at Bank of America, and its EMEA head of delta one sales. He joined BofA a year ago from Goldman, where he spent six years and was part of the firm’s 2021 class of managing directors.

Charvin-d’Andlau is based in London and has been for a while by most humans’ standards (over a decade). His roots, however, seem deep in European nobility.

The Andlau family, which Vincent is a member of, has an illustrious history across Europe, and especially the Alsace region, with its progeny serving the church, state, and parliament in both France and the Holy Roman Empire.

His French family have recently brought a new home “back into the family” (his words, not ours) – the Chateau Niedernai, located in Alsace, near the Franco-German border. Not only that, but it’s undergoing “extensive refurbishment”.

Charvin-d’Andlau isn’t part of the project himself – he credits his mother and brother for the efforts – but he did promote the château on social media. The property was purchased by the family in 2019, but the family has been in the area for a long while before – recently making white wine, it seems, although only since 2016 or so.

Curiously, the Chateau Niedernai’s website does not go into much detail on the Landsberg family that originally built the château in the 1200s and gave it its most well-known name.

The Andlaus are far from the only European noble family in finance, although they are certainly some of the eldest, dating back to the 12th century. The Napoleons are probably the most famous French example, and certainly the most prestigious – current head of the house Jean-Christophe is a former is a former Blackstone principal and co-founder of private equity firm Leon Capital.
