Standard Chartered has boosted its team of cloud experts with another major hire. Ahsan Ijaz joined the bank in Singapore in November as head, cloud engineering platform, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Ijaz was previously chief technology officer at Addo, an artificial intelligence advisory and incubator firm.
His hire comes within weeks of Brendan Royal shifting to Stan Chart as its new global chief architect. Royal is also a cloud specialist, and was recruited from Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Meanwhile, Carl Bachman Kharazmi joined SCB in June as a managing director and global head of cloud engineering and platforms, having been Google’s Singapore-based cloud engineering lead.
Standard Chartered is one of Singapore’s more prolific recruiters of cloud talent because it bases many of its senior technologists in the Republic and is pursuing a “cloud-first principle” for all new software developments and major enhancements. The bank said last year that it would adopt a “multi-cloud approach”, where significant applications, including its core banking and trading systems and new digital ventures, will be cloud-based by 2025.
In November 2020, Stan Chart announced a five-year global agreement with AWS, including running its strategic banking systems and customer facing applications on AWS. That followed an August 2020 cloud deal with Microsoft Azure.
