Ex-Barclays, Goldman Sachs banker becomes recruiter

It's happened again. After a longish career in banking, a former finance professional has decided that a more desirable future likes in financial services recruitment.

Deborah Way, a former managing director at Barclays, has just joined recruitment firm Sheffield Haworth as a New York-based managing director in the global markets team. 

Way began her career at Goldman Sachs and previously spent 11 years at Barclays in the U.S and Singapore, where she was latterly head of Americas emerging markets macro sales. Sources told us previously that Way left Barclays in cuts that happened in May 2019.  

Moving from finance to recruitment is a well-trodden path, although one that doesn't always last. As we reported last September, Miles Millard, the former Deutsche Bank co-head of EMEA corporate finance, joined Citi headhunter JD Haspel for eight months before leaving again to become head of global capital markets (GCM) at ING.  

Julian Bell, MD Head of Americas at Sheffield Haworth said the firm is growing its U.S. equities team under Sarah Harte and described the most recent year as "particularly difficult" for markets globally.

Way is also a founding member of Chief, a private network with over 7,000 members which coaches women in the C-Suite.
