Yes, Bloomberg pays some wild technology salaries in NYC
If you're a technologist looking for a job in a large financial corporation, it's long been rumored that some of the fattest salaries are to be found at Bloomberg. Now there's some hard data that seems to confirm this is the case.
It turns out that Bloomberg is truly huge hirer of people through the H1B visa program. In 2019, it's recruited around 400 people on H1B visas and it's already lined up around 40 next year. Many have been hired into technology roles and many are on salaries that look very impressive - particularly when you consider that JPMorgan's own NYC technology salaries are mostly below $140k for H1B visa holders (at VP) level and that even senior network engineers are Citadel are being hired on salaries of 'only' $200k through the program.
By comparison, senior software engineers at Bloomberg frequently earn $170k+ as salaries, and a senior Hadoop infrastructure engineer was hired in May 2019 on a salary of $286k.
Averages are provided in the table below. Looks like senior software developer is Bloomberg's H1B sweetspot.
