UBS's head of fundamental strategy is on his way out
Themos Fiotakis, a UBS managing director and head of fundamental strategy across assets for UBS's investment bank, appears to have handed in his resignation.
Although Fiotakis is still technically working for UBS, his LinkedIn profile says he is on gardening leave and sources said yesterday was his last day in the office. Fiotakis declined to comment on his exit and it's not clear what he intends to do next.
Fiotakis spent nearly five years at UBS after joining from Goldman Sachs in 2015. He arrived as co-head of FX and fixed income research strategy and graduated to become head of FX rates and research strategy and then head of fundamental cross-asset strategy in July 2019, a role where he looked for 'macro systematic signals with the help of big data.'
It's not clear where Fiotakis is going, but the buy-side is a reasonable bet. Citadel, for example, has been doing some big hiring for its macro team and there were rumours this week that Deutsche's ex-head of rates trading in EMEA is off to Brevan Howard.
