This is your pay at SoftBank Investment Advisers in California

How much can you earn working for SoftBank Investment Advisers, AKA the division of SoftBank that runs the Vision Fund which invested $10.5bn into WeWork in the hope of making a 300% return? New data suggests that in terms of salaries at least, the pay isn't all that generous.

SoftBank Investment Advisers is headquartered in London's Mayfair, but has offices in Silicon Valley, Tokyo and Singapore. Accounts for the whole of SoftBank released earlier this year revealed that Rajeev Misra, who heads the Vision Fund, earned $7m for 2018. Lower down the payscale, however, salaries are more likely to scrape six figures.

The U.S. database for HIB visa applicants and recipients shows that SoftBank Investment Advisers recruited seven people on H1B visas to its Silicon Valley office so far this year. They arrived there on the salaries shown in the table below.

As ever, H1B salaries come with the caveat that they're a small and potentially non-representative sample of the whole. They're also just salaries: SB Investment Advisers will aspire to pay bonuses and carried interest too.

The H1B California pay figures do, however, seem congruent with average salaries at SB Investment Advisers in London. Accounts for the company in the UK are currently overdue, but figures released last year suggested total compensation averaged around $181k in London, with the highest paid person on $3m.

When bonuses and carried interest are taken into account, total compensation at SoftBank IB may fall in future. After all, WeWork isn't looking quite as shiny as it once did. Salaries may yet need to rise to compensate.

Since SoftBank seems to have been Enormously UNSUCCESSFUL with virtually every major US "tech" investment over the last few years - especially WeWork where they appear to have lost the full $10.5bn - one wonders who they were hiring - from the top down everyone seems to have been clueless about what a ponzi/Scientology scheme looks like. Having been in the business for over 40 years now, I am still amazed at how overpaid people are incapable of the most simple common sense.

Ok these "how much X pays" articles based on H1B data are getting old. You're comparing hypothetical listings for what in reality is nearly always cheap replacement labor.
