Would you like some career coaching from Goldman Sachs? No strings attached.

Goldman Sachs is wooing 1,700 people from other firms

Do you want to work for Goldman Sachs? Does one of the most preeminent names in finance appeal to you even though you might never have worked in finance before? This week was your chance to get an 'in.'

Goldman is in the process of running its first ever 'Career Pivot' program globally. Covering 1,700 people and operating from October 21st, Career Pivot is a virtual program for anyone who's thought of swapping jobs or industries. It's also a program for anyone who's thought of working for Goldman Sachs.

"Our participants come from a broad set of industries and backgrounds, many from outside of financial services, and are at various stages in their careers," says a spokeswoman for the bank. "The goal of the program is to share best practices and advice from the firm to help professionals interested in making a pivot and looking for advice on how to navigate the change. "

Goldman has been running similar programs for graduates for several years, but this is the first time it's introduced virtual career coaching for experienced professionals. Participants get to work through five different modules, each of which last for a week. They include advice on resumes, building a network, choosing a role, interviews and (lastly) getting to know Goldman Sachs.

"We hope that each and every person who signs up will learn from the sessions and leverage the advice to make successful transitions to the company or industry of their choosing," says the spokeswoman. "We also hope this strengthens our own pipeline as we’re always looking for talented people from a broad set of backgrounds and experiences."

Applications for the 2019 program are now closed, but Goldman may well run something similar next year.
