Barclays hired a Goldman Sachs MD a year after he joined from Deutsche Bank

Shahid Akram is on the move again. Just over a year after he joined Goldman Sachs from Deutsche Bank,  Akram's LinkedIn profile shows that he's gone again - to Barclays.

Akram is joining the British bank as a managing director and chief of staff for FX and emerging markets trading and distribution.

At Goldman Sachs he was an MD, although his role wasn't entirely clear. At Deutsche Bank, where he spent seven and a half years previously, Akram was an MD and COO of FX. Prior to that he spent ten years at Citigroup.

Akram's arrival at Barclays comes as the British bank seems to have slowed its senior markets hiring amidst pressure to increase revenues and returns. CEO Jes Staley has latterly been getting touchy about activist investor Edward Bramson and suggesting that he should “go back home to Connecticut.”

It's been suggested that Akram is likely off to work with Fabio Madar, Deutsche's old global head of FX coverage, who joined Barclays in August 2018. Barclays didn't respond to a request to comment on whether this is the case.
