Tragic death of one of JPMorgan's top technologists

Doug Carucci, the global head of currencies, emerging markets and commodities technology, and the global head of fixed income currencies and commodities (FICC) electronic trading technology at JPMorgan, passed away at the weekend.

JPMorgan insiders say that Carucci, who is thought to have been in his late 40s, died unexpectedly.

JPMorgan didn't immediately respond to a request to comment.

Carucci began his career at Credit Suisse First Boston in 1993 and then spent 10 years at Citadel, during which he rose to become global head of front office technology. He joined JPMorgan in June 2011 and worked out of New York but frequently visited London.

Carucci was seen as a great technologist and charismatic boss. In 2015, a recruiter told us that his candidates always wanted to join Carucci's team because he was "seen as a superstar." One of his reports said that Carucci was always very generous when he visited London: "He'd take us all out for drinks!"

Carucci's tragic and untimely death leaves a major hole in JPMorgan's tech division. Insiders say it will fall to Mario Shamtani, whom JPM hired from Citi in November 2018, to replace him. "There are few suitable candidates internally," says one.
