Point72 continues adding to its macro team
Steven Cohen’s Point72 Asset Management is pushing forward with its macro investing strategy with the hiring of two new analysts – one in the U.S. and one in the U.K.
Adrien Cohen, a former junior macro trader at Societe Generale in London, joined Point72 in October as a global macro portfolio management analyst based in the U.S. Meanwhile, former Citadel commodities analyst Christoph Weiss joined Point72 in London last month as a senior macro trading analyst.
The two hires are part of the multi-strategy hedge fund’s focus on building up its macro team. In May, Point72 poached a five-person team from Balyasny Asset Management, including three portfolio managers and two analysts. Two months previous, the firm hired veteran macro trader Aardash Malde from Tudor Capital in London. The firm, formerly known as SAC Capital, has been adding headcount on both sides of the pond following the expiration of its two-year ban trading client money. Point72 also poached a group of employees from Morgan Stanley’s electronic trading desk, the Equity Trading Lab, earlier this summer, according to Bloomberg, and has already exceeded its 2018 headcount target in London.
