Interesting bank jobs that require no previous banking experience

If you want to work for a big bank, chances are good you’ll need a background in financial services. That said, there are a handful of open positions where industry experience isn’t a prerequisite. We’ve compiled a list of several of the more interesting roles below, disregarding generic tech and lower-level operational roles where cross-industry hiring is a regularity. (J.P. Morgan is looking for a cook and a concierge if you’re interested). None of the roles require previous experience working in financial services. Every opening is based in New York unless otherwise specified.

VP/ED of Community TeamWorks at Goldman Sachs

Goldman Sachs is looking to add a senior member to the firm’s philanthropic arm. The right candidate with help oversee the bank’s Community TeamWorks program, which manages employee volunteer projects with non-profits. Goldman is looking for someone with 10+ years of volunteer management and community engagement experience, including budget analysis and reporting skills.

University relations specialists at J.P. Morgan

J.P. Morgan has several of these roles posted across different locations. The primary responsibility is to develop relationships with assigned universities to help build the pipeline for J.P. Morgan’s summer intern and full-time analyst programs. You’ll need six-plus years of recruiting experience and a background in university relations or career services. The bank is also on the lookout for similar candidates with experience recruiting MBAs.

An expense analytics manager at Citi

Citi is on the lookout for someone who can identify cost-cutting opportunities and make budget recommendations to senior management within the bank’s institutional clients group. The posting reads like the resume of an internal consultant, which is probably why Citi is looking for 10-15 years of experience in management consulting or business strategy.

Content creators at J.P. Morgan

J.P. Morgan is looking for a senior content strategist. The person will manage a group of writers, editors and strategists who create digital content for the firm’s wealth management, business and commercial banking units. They’re looking for 15+ years of writing and editing marketing content along with five years of managerial experience. The bank is also looking for someone to produce videos and animation campaigns.

Workforce analytics specialists at Morgan Stanley

While this role sits in the human resources department, no recruiting experience is necessary. It’s a reporting and analytics role centered on human capital, including headcount, turnover and career progression data. However, the main responsibility seems to revolve around compensation – analyzing salary and bonus processes and making recommendations to management. Morgan Stanley is looking to fill an associate-level position as well as a similar VP-level role where an advanced degree in a quantitative or social science is preferred.

Social media strategist at Goldman Sachs

An analyst or associate-level position, the social media strategist helps create and push content across the bank’s Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn platforms. The firm is looking for someone with four to six years of experience managing social media for brands or publishers.

Lawyers at Bank of America

Bank of America needs at least one attorney who can manage corporate governance and shareholder engagement, including providing guidance over stockholder meetings, proxy votes and inquiries from institutional investors. Along with a JD, candidates will need at least 10 years advising complex international corporations on corporate governance and shareholder relations. The role(s) can be based out of New York or Charlotte.

An employee relations specialist at Morgan Stanley

Morgan Stanley is looking for an employee referee, of sorts. The person will investigate complaints of discrimination, harassment, retaliation and other work-related issues, and provide advice to HR, managers and employees on potential plans of action. A JD and five-plus years of experience managing employee relations at a large complex organization is required.

Nurses at J.P. Morgan

No description is really necessary. J.P. Morgan is looking for registered nurses to keep its bankers upright. There are currently three open positions based in Fort Worth, TX, Plano, TX and Columbus OH.
