Is this the best fintech firm to join right now? One trading veteran seems to think so
Sabrina Gagliotta has just been hired as the senior vice president of sales at Thesys Technologies, a capital markets fintech firm previously known as Tradeworx. It rebranded in January after spinning out its trading business as Blueshift Asset Management, which is led by Mani Mahjouri, the former chief investment officer of Tradeworx.
Gagliotta started her career as an equity trader at Schwab Soundview Capital Markets before joining Bloomberg in 2005. She rose up the ranks to become the head of Americas equities sales and trading at Bloomberg Tradebook in 2015 before being promoted to the global head of implementations for Bloomberg’s sell-side execution and order management solutions (SSEOMS) at the end of 2016. She left that firm to join Thesys Technologies at the beginning of this month.
After the flash crash of 2010, the Securities and Exchange Commission proposed a rule requiring the industry to build a massive Consolidated Audit Trail (CAT) for tracking and storing information on every order, cancellation, modification and trade execution for exchange-listed equities and options in the U.S. markets. Thesys partnered with IBM, a law firm and Rosenblatt Securities and improbably beat out Finra and 30 others as the SEC selected their bid to build the CAT in January 2017.
Since that time, Thesys has been on a hiring spree, bringing on former Citi MD and LCH.Clearnet senior executive Ali Hackett as the chief revenue officer in August. The firm claims to have doubled in size since getting the nod from the SEC.
On the other hand, financial data giant Bloomberg shook up its trading unit a year ago when Ray Tierney, the former global head of its broker-dealer and sell-side trading solutions business, and Glenn Lesko, who replaced Tierney as the CEO of its agency brokerage Bloomberg Tradebook, both left the firm. Global head of sales Tom Kingsley was promoted to president/CEO of Tradebook. Last month, former Tradebook CTO Syed Fazli joined Celsius Network, a borrowing and lending platform running on the blockchain.
