Meet eight impressive analysts getting jobs in boutique investment banks in 2016

Working for an M&A boutique is the new thing. Senior and junior investment bankers have been making the move away from the bulge bracket and into specialist shops. If you're a graduate trying to get in, don't expect the competition to be any less tough than applying to a big bank. But are the types of analysts hired from boutiques any different to those being hired by the likes of Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan and Morgan Stanley?

As we've already profiled some of the class of 2016 at the large banks, we are now turning our attention to those hired by the boutiques. These are some of the impressive analysts being hired right now.

1. Tim Raulf-Pick, M&A generalist, Centerview Partners, London 

Tim interned at Centerview last summer and was offered a full-time position starting in September. However, he has a range of investment banking experience under his belt. He has completed spring internships at Morgan Stanley, Nomura and Royal Bank of Scotland during his time at Imperial College London, where he studied a Masters in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, following a bachelors in the same topic. He also spent summer in the real estate team at RBC Capital Markets. In terms of extra-curricular activities, Tim was the events manager for Imperial's finance society, a ski instructor in Switzerland and founded a club to train young students in the art of being a DJ.

2. Adrien Acar, advisory and restructuring, PJT Partners, London

Adrien interned in the restructuring division of Blackstone Partners, which is the parent company of PJT, last summer and converted it into a full-time offer. He also has experience at private equity firm Oaktree Capital Management in Paris and at Credit Agricole in its New York M&A team. Adrien has a Masters in Finance from Edhec Business School and an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Université Paris Dauphine.

3. Alex Ross, investment banking analyst, Ondra Partners, London

Alex started at Ondra in March following a four-month off-cycle internship starting in November last year. Alex was a member of the trading and investment society at Manchester University, but the internship at Ondra is the limit of his investment banking experience. Instead, he has spent months working as a press assistant at the All England Tennis Club. However, he has recently completed a Masters in Finance at the London School of Economics, following the completion of a first class degree in Economics from Manchester.

4. Scott Shi, analyst, Qatalyst Partners, San Fransisco 

Scott has recently completed a degree in Finance and Economics from the NYU Stern School of Business, during which time he was a teaching fellow for four months. He didn't intern at Qatalyst, but has spent time at Rothschild, C.L. King & Associates and as a corporate finance intern at IBM. He has also taken part in various investment banking competitions hosted by J.P. Morgan, Barclays and Credit Suisse.

5. Victor Lacassagne, M&A generalist, Centerview Partners, London 

Victor is another internship conversion at Centerview Partners, but once again this isn't the limit of his investment banking experience. He has spent the summer in the leveraged finance division of Credit Suisse, and also spent eight months as an intern at private equity firm Bridgepoint in Paris. Interestingly, Victor also spent three months working as 'entrepreneur in residence' at Rocket Internet's Kuala Lumpur office in Malaysia. Victor's undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Economics comes from the LSE, and he also has a Masters in Business Administration from HEC Paris.

6. Milad Zarpak, analyst, Qatalyst Partners, London

Qatalyst's tech focus means that its junior recruits are not always cut from the same mould as larger investment banks'. So it is with Milad, who interned at Qatalyst last summer, but has no other investment banking experience. Instead, he has worked as an intern product manager for Delivery Hero, a technology company based out of Berlin. More conventionally, Milad also has a Masters in International Management from Bocconi, but his final thesis was on the factors that lead to success in early stage technology companies.

7. Benedict Newman-Sanders, analyst, Hannam & Partners 

Benedict hasn't joined Hannam as a fresh graduate, but has instead made the switch across to a boutique after spending nearly a year at Nomura, where he was focused on UK corporate broking relationships. He joined the bank in September after two months as an analyst working fro Peel Hunt in London. He has a bachelors in History from the University of Oxford. After graduating in 2014, he spent nine months as head of marketing at digital technology company Synnapps.

8. Niccolò Mosci, M&A, PJT Partners, London

Niccolò spent last summer at Macquarie in London, interning in its M&A advisory and principal investments arm focused on infrastructure.  He also has experience as a corporate finance intern at renewable energy firm ERG Spa in Italy. He has a Masters in Management from ESCP Europe.
