BAML’s ex-energy banking head signs up to Macquarie

The former head of energy, metals and infrastructure finance at Bank of America Merrill Lynch has taken a senior investment banking job at Macquarie.

Hurbinder Mudan, who joined BAML in 2010 in as managing director focused on its energy business across corporate and investment banking, has just moved into an MD role at Macquarie with a focus on infrastructure, renewables and natural resources.

Energy and utilities investment banking is having a particularly good year, with $162.2bn worth of deals announced so far in 2016. Mudan left BAML in April, ironically at a time when the bank has risen to the top of the M&A rankings in 2016 – with $56.9bn worth of deals – primarily on the back of a surge of energy deals.

Mudan joined BAML along with ten other bankers at a time of expansion for its corporate and investment bank. He came from RBS where he was head of oil and gas, structured infrastructure finance.

In the interim period between leaving BAML and starting at Macquarie, Mudan registered Greenwich Capital Advisory on Companies House. It offers advisory services across debt capital markets in the oil and gas sectors.
