Ex-Goldman Sachs summer analyst is YouTube sensation
As summer analysts start to arrive at investment banks for a summer of hard, hard work and intense competition for a likely diminished number of jobs, some may wonder whether there isn't an easier alternative in life. Like - maybe - strumming a guitar on YouTube.
It's worked for Jess Greenberg, a student at University College London (UCL), who interned last summer at Goldman Sachs in London.
Greenberg has her own YouTube channel with 1.1m subscribers. Her most popular video, below, has had nearly 9m views and 94,500 likes. Greenberg may not be Gangnam Style, but with YouTube allegedly paying $2k per million views, her side-hustle seems to be quite lucrative.

Nor does it seem to be entirely onerous. Greenberg has uploaded 60 videos to YouTube in total, and she has a formula: she sits in a bedroom, in front of a wardrobe, wears a cleavage-displaying top, plays the guitar and sings to the camera.
Greenberg is very intelligent. She has four As and one A* at A Level (Maths, Further Maths, Economics and French) and is studying statistics, economics and finance at UCL.
She graduates this summer. With past internships at Goldman, Barclays, BAML and Morgan Stanley, she's clearly been targeting a career in investment banking. Will Greenberg join Goldman's full time analyst programme next month? The firm said she's not currently an employee but didn't respond when asked if she'll be joining soon. Nor did Greenberg herself immediately respond to our request about her future plans. However, she hasn't posted a new video to YouTube for nine months, suggesting she's moving onto something else. That may be a shame: Greenberg has musical talent and her YouTube fans will miss her. More to the point, earning money in banking looks like hard work compared to playing the guitar to an audience of millions from your bedroom.
