This is who Steve Cohen’s Point72 is hiring in London now
Point72, the-hedge fund-come-family-office formerly known as SAC Global investors that now manages the vast wealth of founder Steve Cohen, is building its London office.
It hasn’t been fielding applications, but instead has been “reaching out” to people it wants to hire. On Friday, it revealed that hired Will Tovey – formerly co-head of equity distribution at Barclays to lead its London office.
However, its also been bringing in people lower down the tree in investment roles in the past few weeks.
We pointed out that Arjun Menon, formerly a partner and portfolio manager at SAC Global Investors in London, had left his role at Moore Capital Management in February. Now, he’s joined Point72 in the same role he left – namely a partner managing global long/short equities.
Joining him is Israa Al Bayaa, who again left Moore late last year having signed up to the hedge fund after five and half years at SAC in London. He joins as a partner and portfolio manager focusing on utilities and infrastructure.
Stanislas de Caumont, has joined as a global macro portfolio manager from Baynasny Asset Management where he led the G10 fixed income and FX portfolio. Again, he had a stint at SAC’s London operation – joining from Credit Suisse in 2012, where he was head of government bonds, inflation and repo for Europe.
At the junior end, Atallah Estephan has joined as an analyst from Moore Capital Management. Once again, he was at SAC in London until its closure in 2013, focused on utilities and infrastructure.
Essentially, therefore, Point72 is coming good on its promise to hire back some of the previous London team who were forced out when it closed its London office for “external reasons”. This is the first wave of hires – Point72 plans to add 10-15 investment staff in 2016, and has room for up to 70 people in its new office in London’s Mayfair.
