Meet the top spring interns coming soon to a bank near you

Sometime soon, they will arrive. Spring in banking means spring weeks and spring weeks mean the arrival of spring interns. These are usually first year university students - typically aged around 20-years-old - who are so passionate about working in banking that they put in their applications for their spring week during their first term at university, when most of today's managing directors would have been ingratiating themselves at freshers events.

Who are these super-keen neophytes? We've listed a few below. You might see them about a lot. This is because top first year students often don't just do one spring internship. They do two, or three, or four...

1. Max Happel: soon to be spring intern at BNP Paribas, HSBC and RBC Capital Markets 

Max is an economics student at UCL. He's actually in the second year, and scored a first in his first year exams. He has A levels in Maths, Economics and German, two of which are graded A* and one of which is graded A. He's been offered an opportunity to study at Wharton for a year as part of his degree course.

Supplementary to his up-and-coming spring weeks, Max has already interned at J.P. Morgan and Bloomsbury Capital (UCL's investment fund) and been a brand ambassador at Citi.

2. Vanessa Odunsi: soon to be spring intern at  HSBC, J.P. Morgan and Morgan Stanley

Vanessa is also a student at UCL, studying German and Latin. She too is a second year student. She has two A*s and one A at A Level and 4 As at AS Level. She has already completed insight programs and spring internships at BAML, Morgan Stanley, and RBS.

3. Kayathrie Atputharajah: soon to be spring intern at Barclays and Bank of America Merrill Lynch

Kayathrie is a first year student of land economy at Cambridge University. On track for a first, she's already gained work experience at Barclays and KPMG.

4. Jack Jenkins: soon to be spring intern at J.P. Morgan and Credit Suisse

Jack is an economics student at Leeds University. Despite only starting the course last year, he's already gained a month of sales and trading work experience at J.P. Morgan (in 2013) and attended a J.P. Morgan insight day last July.

5. Simon Schröder: soon to be intern at Morgan Stanley and Lazard 

Schröder is another economics student at UCL. He achieved the equivalent of five A*s at A level and has been selected to become a member of the think-tank Chatham House. He's already completed an insight day at the Bank of England and an internship at Allianz Investment Management.

6. Christian Mendez: soon to be spring intern at Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, BNY Mellon, ICAP, BNP Paribas and Nomura

An economics student at Nottingham University, Mendez has two A*s and two As at A level. He's bilingual in English and Spanish, plays grade 8 clarinet, and has a brown belt in karate. He's already participated in leadership programs or insight days at J.P. Morgan, McKinsey & Co and Deutsche Bank.

7. Julie Nyeko: soon to be spring intern at J.P. Morgan, Barclays and Nomura

A Ugandan by birth, Nyeko is studying law at BPP Law School, where she is on track for a first. She achieved three As at A level and five A*s and three As at GCSE. She's already participated in short insight days and internships at J.P. Morgan, Citi, BP and Goldman Sachs.
