Five exciting new UK finance firms that could hire you

With investment banks trimming their trading floors, it’s important to know what options are available to you.  Corporate finance boutique IMAS tracks new financial services firms which have achieved regulatory approval in London. Among the hundreds which have launched in 2016, these are the firms which we judge offer the most interesting new opportunities.

1. Everett Capital Advisors:

This is a new hedge fund launched by Kelly Hampaul, a former portfolio manager at Taconic Capital Advisers who left after 12 years to go it alone, Everett Capital Advisors now has six employees in London.

Christopher Beton, a former Jefferies banker who was latterly at Leucadia Investment management, is a partner while Joshua Glickman has joined from Taconic and Elio Lambardi is a partner and senior analyst having joined from Nightscape Capital. Jonathan Summers, a former Goldman Sachs MD, will lead business development.

2. Rye Bay Capital:

This is another hedge fund set up by an industry veteran going it alone, Rye Bay Capital was set up by former Pelham Capital portfolio manager Daniel Martin and has been hiring ahead of its launch and currently has seven people.

Jeff Davis, a former equity research analyst in the building and construction materials sector at HSBC, has joined as a senior analyst and partner. Philip Loveday left UBS’s prime brokerage division to lead investor relations and business development at Rye Bay and Julien de Bournet joined as a senior analyst from Lombard Odier.

3. Silver Ridge Asset Management

This was a long time coming – Silver Ridge, the macro hedge fund set up by the former head of Citigroup’s currency business, was due to launch in April last year, but has only just been given the thumbs up by the UK regulator. It was delayed due to an FCA investigation into potential market manipulation of the FX market.

Now it’s up and running with five front office employees, many of them former bank traders. Marangatty Karthikeyan, is a former Barclays managing director who joined from Graham Capital Management, portfolio manager Jean-David Aube is a former interest rates options trader at Barclays and Paul Murray joins from Citi.

4. Keeper Capital:

An oil and gas focused hedge fund set up by former Greensphere Capital partner Vincent Houlier, Keeper Capital so far remains a small operation. Former Citigroup trader Daniel Coyle is the other listed employee.

5. Ventiga Capital Management:

A boutique private equity firm launched by Daniel Mytik, a former partner Palamon Capital Partners and Niclas Gabrán, who was a managing director at the London arm of U.S. private equity firm Towerbrook Capital Partners, Ventiga Capital Management was given the formal thumbs up by the regular in January.

So far, Ventiga only has one other front office employee – Phillip Sachs, a former analyst at Nomura who latterly worked at venture capital firm Frog Capital.
