The most interesting new hires at hedge funds just before Christmas
While investment banks cut, some hedge funds in the UK have continued to add senior staff in the final months of 2015. These are the most interesting senior hires.
Millennium Capital Management
Commodities specialists are not hot property currently, either on the sell-side or buy-side, but Millennium Capital is hiring regardless. Andrew Dodson, who was formerly head of non-US oil trading at BTG Pactual, signed up as a portfolio manager earlier this month.
Capula Investment Management
Capula Investment Management has relatively active 2015 on the recruitment front. There have been some big ticket hires, including David Sabotka, who was latterly head of FICC trading at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and generally headcount has been on the rise. The latest recruit is Matt Isherwood, who joins as a portfolio manager. He was latterly a quant at Sabre Fund Management, where he’d been for nearly ten years.
Cheyne Capital Management
Again, Cheyne has had an expansionary year, even if its equities team has been churning, and the latest recruit is Rob Turner, who will focus on real estate and debt. He switched across to the buy-side from UBS in 2007, since when he’s been working as a real estate investment manager at Laxey Partners.
Moore Capital Management
Moore has hired a senior researcher, who only switched to the buy-side in 2014. Arnaud Pinatel, who was latterly a partner at Denjoy Capital Partners – a Blackstone-backed hedge fund that closed in April – signed up earlier this month. He was previously deputy head of research and a managing director at BNP Paribas.
Citadel
Brevan Howard has lost a number of senior staff over the past 12 months, and Citadel has taken advantage of the latest exit. Lewis Hagedorn, an agricultural commodities strategist who was also formerly head of agricultural commodities research at J.P. Morgan, signed up earlier this month. It’s another counter-cyclical hire for Citadel, which is also building in fixed income.
