Meet the economics student who completed 11 finance internships in his first year

The London School of Economics (LSE) is the place to go if you want to work in finance. Goldman Sachs hires mostly from there in Europe. So does Morgan Stanley.  The LSE has one of the top Masters in Finance courses for trading jobs, and a big body of alumni already working in finance who will be able to help you insert your foot in the banking door.

The LSE is also where you will find the first year university student whom we think may have the largest quantity of finance internships for his age. His name? Haydn Pole. His current internship count?...Eleven.

Despite only being in the first term of his second year of his BSc in Economics at the LSE, Cole's LinkedIn profile indicates that he has so far completed internships at: ICAP, RBC Capital Markets, BlackRock, Barclays Investment Bank, Deloitte, BDO, HSBC, PWC, The Bank of England, UBS and...Deutsche Bank.

The obvious question is, how? How did a first year student make time for so many internships? The answer seems to be that Hayden's internships were all short 'spring week' or 'spring day' -style events, enabling him, for example, to pack five in during April alone. They weren't full 'summer internships' of the type that lead to a full time job offer, but they still look pretty good on a CV.

If you're a first year university student and you haven't arranged any spring week-style internships for 2015, you should look at Poole's CV and weep. As we've pointed out on various occasions, the people who get jobs in banks today have multiple internships. On this basis, Poole (who also got 3 A*s, 1 A and 1 B at A Level), is raising the bar considerably.
