US investment bank’s massive hiring pledge; junior bankers in dire need

In the latest hiring roundup, Sun Trust makes a huge investment banking pledge, Credit Suisse celebrates with leveraged finance hires and Blackstone gets hedgy.

Japanese banks eye Westerners

Japanese megabanks are employing a new method to entice Western bankers to join their ranks. For once, they’re hiring Americans and Europeans (both men and women) to top leadership positions. Mizuho and Nomura are particularly active.

CS adding specialized investment bankers

Credit Suisse is adding to its leveraged finance team in Europe, highlighted by a recent senior level hire from UBS. The group, which is a merger of the bank’s leveraged finance and sponsors teams, is having its “best year ever,” according to one executive.

Massive expansion for US investment bank

Sun Trust plans to hire 200 people within its investment bank as it builds out its capital markets and stock research teams, among other units.

Here are the five highest ranked boutique consulting companies, as ranked by employees. They’re all hiring.

Blackstone begins hedge fund binge

Blackstone is ramping up hiring for its new hedge fund unit. The private equity giant has already reportedly poached some big fish from Ziff Brothers Investments and Serengeti Asset Management. Blackstone wants to bring in roughly 30 teams of traders before all is said and done.

The season of junior bankers

The junior hiring plans of Wall Street banks have been well reported, but here’s a nice wrap-up. Bank of America is increasing hires by 40% and J.P. Morgan 10%. Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs and Barclays grew their internship programs by around 10% and 20%, respectively.

BNP hiring electronic markets bankers (kind of)

BNP Paribas is adding to its electronic markets team in Europe, but so far the only hires come from within the bank’s other divisions.

Cantor joins Moelis

Former House majority leader Eric Cantor is joining boutique investment bank Moelis & Co. It could be a boon for the bank's advisory business.
