Another tragic suicide from JPMorgan's roof? Cue the conspiracy theories

Following last month's apparent suicide of Gabriel Magee, the 39 year old JPMorgan rates technologist who fell from the roof of the bank's office in Canary Wharf, Asian media sources are reporting that a man has fallen from the roof of JPMorgan's office in Hong Kong.

The Financial Post reported that the man was a 33 year-old 'junior' investment banker at the bank's Asian headquarters. Zero Hedge reported that the man was an FX trader.

Ryan Crane, a 37 year-old executive director in JPMorgan's program trading business also died at home last week. The cause of Ryan's death is unclear according to the Post, and will be determined by toxicology reports available in six weeks' time.

With three potential suicides in as many weeks at JPMorgan, conspiracy theorists have been proposing spurious links between the men and the potential that each was exposed to difficult conditions at work. Wall Street on Parade suggests McGee's death was suspicious as he'd promised to meet his girlfriend that evening, and that he may have been providing subpoenaed material for the London Whale investigation. Zero Hedge suggested that Crane's death merited consideration because he worked on the program trading desk, 'a function of the firm which is instrumental to preserving JPM's impeccable and (so far in 2013) flawless trading record of zero trading losses.'

With each man working on a different continent and in a different division, any connection between the three seems highly unlikely, however. The deaths at JPMorgan are almost certainly individual tragedies, and should be treated as such for the sake of the individuals involved and the families left behind.
