Who hired in the Middle East in July?

While the summer months are usually quiet in the Middle East, a flurry of new appointments in the financial sector were announced throughout July.

Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange has hired Abdul Aziz Al Neami as its assistant chief executive for support services. He was previously with Reem Finance.

BBK, the Bahraini bank, has named Amit Kumar as its new chief risk officer and head of credit and risk management.

Emirates Islamic Bank has hired Yakub Bobat as head of corporate banking. He was previously global head of HSBC Amanah Commercial Banking.

Emirates NBD has appointed Arjuna Mahedran as its new chief investment officer for its wealth management division. He was previously with HSBC Private Bank.

Exotix, the emerging markets focused investment bank, has named Philip Southwell as its chief executive officer. He was previously at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in the region.

Mara Group, an Africa-focused private equity firm in Dubai, has appointed Bradford M. Gibbs as its new managing partner. He joins from Morgan Stanley’s Johannesburg office where he was head of South Africa investment banking.

Morgan Stanley has named Abdullah Al-Ansari as its new head of Qatar. He was previously with Qatar National Bank’s brokerage division, and replaces Khalid Al-Subeai, who joined The First Investor late last year.

NASDAQ Dubai has appointed Hamed Ahmed Ali as its new chief executive officer. He has been acting chief executive officer since August 2012.

The National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) has named Rafi Ahmed as its new head of global financial markets in Europe, based in London. He joins from HSBC, where he was co-head of global markets for the MENA region.

PwC has named Hani Askar as a new Middle East senior partner, effective from October. He has been with the firm for 18 years.

Qatar National Bank has named Ali Ahmed Al Kuwari as acting chief executive officer.

Standard Chartered has named Sarmad Lone as regional head for global corporates for Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan (MENAP). He was previously with Morgan Stanley.

Saudi British Bank has named Mohammed Al Dawood as general manager of commercial banking across the kingdom. He has been with the bank since 1996.

United Gulf Bank has named Rabih Soukerieh as its new chief executive officer. He has worked at the bank in various investment and corporate banking roles over the last ten years.

Wells Fargo has recruited Umair Naqvi as its new head of sovereign wealth fund coverage group. He was previously executive director at Morgan Stanley for Middle East and North Africa.
