How much you can earn in banking with a degree, a masters, an MBA and a PhD?

The results to our annual bonus survey are out. They reveal that some people in some areas of banking earn far smaller bonuses than you might imagine. They also reveal that more education typically leads to more bonus money - but that too much education doesn't pay.

According to our figures, derived from a survey of 600 bankers in London, these were the average (mean) bonuses in 2012 for bankers with the following qualifications:

- A Levels: £11k

- Graduate (BA) degree: £37k

- Masters degree: £53k

- MBA: £89k

- PhD: £50k

In other words, if you want to work in banking, you should do a PhD for the love - not the money.
