Where can you get a financial services job in Ireland between now and Christmas?

First, some good news: this is a great time for hiring people into financial services jobs in Ireland. According to recruiters, now's the time when companies start looking at their needs for 2013. “Companies are looking to get people on board for the New Year” says Ken Harbourne from Wallace Myers International.

Where's the hiring happening?

Restructuring is still big

Elaine Liston from Hudson says banks are building teams in credit, mortgages and restructuring.

Harbourne highlights hiring in, "loan restructuring and lending.” However, most of the hiring is at the junior end, says Harbourne: banks have already hired senior executives and are now focused on recruiting for junior and mid-level positions in his opinion.

Risk and compliance hiring is still happening

“The Central Bank is very aggressive about enforcement of new legislation, and is now very robust, well-lead and well-resourced; which puts every financial services business under pressure to be compliant”, says Harbourne.

The Central Bank of Ireland has itself hired a lot of people since 2009 meaning there are fewer risk and compliance professionals on the market. Emer Murphy from recruiters FK International confirms that this is an area of significant hiring. In some cases Ireland's Central Bank is even making recommendations that internal compliance teams add staff and, "giving deadlines for this to be done.”

Graduates, database reporting and.... aircraft leasing? 

There have been a lot of financial services redundancies since 2008, but there is still a lot of work to do, Harbourne says that “there has been an increase in graduate level recruitment across the board." Graduates are a cheap hiring option. They also provide an opportunity to train staff in new ways of doing business.

Murphy has also noticed “a big rise in demand for people with business intelligence/reporting skills especially with experience in relation to database and business intelligence tools such as SQL, cognos, breo etc”.

And if you fancy something a little different, Harbourne reminds us that Ireland is the centre of the aircraft leasing business and that there's always demand for people in this industry: “Financing airlines is big business, and all the major players are here."
