As competition intensifies, Ireland’s job-seekers prepare more for job interviews

Preparing for an upcoming job interview may seem self-evident, but in most countries less than 50% of people bother to do so, according to new research. In Ireland, however, this figure is closer to 75%.

This may be reflective of the difficult job market, but Ireland’s job seekers are more likely than any other country to prepare effectively for an interview, according to research by Robert Walters.

This means just two hours researching the role and company you’ve applied to. The UK came in second with 55%, while just 24% of those surveyed in Germany said they prepare for interviews.

“Job seekers need to assume that the level of competition for every role is intense; therefore interview preparation may be the distinguishing factor when it comes to securing their chosen role,” said Louise Campbell, managing director of Robert Walters Ireland.

She adds that the degree of preparation “speaks volumes about your interest and level of conscientiousness” and will increase your confidence going into an interview.
