Martin Currie’s mini-recruitment spree (largely outside of Scotland)

Martin Currie, Scotland’s self-styled ‘big boutique’ asset manager, is never going to go for a hammer and fist approach to recruitment, but over the past few months it’s been quietly building its team.

Earlier this week it unveiled Phil Raby as a sales manager in its UK intermediary business, having joined from JO Hambro Capital. He’ll be based out of the north of England, and the pattern for the majority of Martin Currie’s new hires is that they’re outside of Scotland.

Penny Kyle joined Martin Currie in early July, taking the role of investment director for its North American equities team, while Mike Gibb to the decision to relocate to Singapore for a new role as director, sales and client services for Asia in June.

The fund manager is also building its research team, having latterly recruited Gavin MacGregor as senior research analyst for healthcare.

If you do want to work in Martin Currie’s Scotland office, the best bet appears to be getting in at a junior level. Its graduate scheme has just opened for applications and closes on 31 December.
