An idea of the salary and bonuses technologists should expect at a hedge fund

The selling points for a technologist working for a hedge fund are many – a less hierarchical working environment, IT that is more closely aligned to the business area, for example. However, the biggest plus point has always been the bonus potential.

This is in evidence in the latest salary survey by recruiters Astbury Marsden. A Java GUI/Swing developer for example, could earn a £90k bonus on top of a £90k salary. A Java messaging developer has the potential to earn total comp of £170k, while this figure is £182k for front office C++ developers.

By contrast, the equivalent roles in an investment bank pay a maximum of £108k, 102k and £132k respectively.
