Maybe jobs at the Green Investment Bank in Edinburgh don't look too great after all

As we reported in March, 25 jobs are being created as Edinburgh's Green Investment Bank.

Today, however, Financial News rains on Edinburgh's parade.

Although the Green Investment Bank has already got £3bn to invest and has already appointed a chairman (Lord Robert Smith of Kelvin) and a deputy chairman (Sir Adrian Montague), it seems there are already gripes in the green investing sector about its ability to make much difference.

At a seminar hosted by the Westminster Energy, Environment and Transport Forum, green gripers aired their discontent. In the first place, they complained that  the Green Investment Bank won't be able to borrow any money until 2015 at the earliest and that even then it may be unable to do so if the UK public sector debt is too unwieldy. In the second place, there are no plans to obtain a licence for the Green Investment Bank, which means it won't be able to raise money in the capital markets, thereby turning its existing £3bn capital base into a a fund as high as £90bn-£100bn.

For the moment, the Green Investment Bank has a website, but having appointed its 'top team' it doesn't appear to be advertising any jobs. Maybe they will come soon.
