If you want a permanent job, try Edinburgh. If you want a temping job, try Glasgow

This is the message from this week's overall upbeat Bank of Scotland monthly report on jobs. 

Much has already been made of the fact that more jobs were created in Scotland in May and that the Scottish economy therefore looked fairly resilient. Less has been said about the specifics of the report - most notably the differences in the labour market between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

"Permanent placements increased to the greatest extent in Edinburgh during May," says the report, "while recruitment agencies based in Glasgow saw the strongest rise in temp staff billings."

Similarly, wage inflation is apparently highest in Edinburgh.

Very little was said about banking and financial services jobs in Glasgow or Edinburgh. Instead, it seems most of the temporary and permanent jobs in Scotland are in IT & Computing - although this may include those created in JPMorgan's technology centre in Glasgow.
