Edinburgh and Glasgow are winning lots of financial services jobs, apparently
Recruitment firm BrightPool thinks there are thousands of financial services jobs on offer in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
It estimates there were 1,995 new financial services job vacancies on offer in Edinburgh in April, making it the second most important centre for financial services jobs in the UK. Glasgow was also in the top ten.
Banks are moving staff out of London and into the regions in an attempt to cut costs, said Brightpool. On average, financial services pay outside London is 30% lower than inside London.
JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley are among the banks with big back office centres in Glasgow. Edinburgh has Tesco Bank and Virgin Money and a big fund management industry. However, Scotland is also under threat from other UK cities: Deutsche has an operations processing centre in Birmingham and Bank of America is hiring 1,000 people for a new technology centre in Chester.
